Meet Cindy Zirbes

I have always been concerned about environmental issues. I was recycling and bringing my own grocery bags to the store long before it was popular. You can imagine my shock when I learned the candles I was burning and the air fresheners I used in our home were harmful to my family! A friend invited me to a class about Young Living Essential Oils and  realized this was the solution I was looking for.  I could replace all those toxic candles and sprays! Little did I know then that these bottles of goodness would change my life. Besides being the first essential oil company in the US, Young Living also has cleaning products, personal care products, supplements, and much more, all infused with essential oils. Young Living is a lifestyle I have adopted and would love to help you on your road to wellness.

The 20-Minute Bedtime Habit That Helps Me Fall Asleep Faster

The Twenty Minutes Before Bed Changed My Nights

For years, I had a bedtime routine that looked perfectly normal.
I'd finish the dishes, answer a few last texts, scroll through one more thing on my phone, brush my teeth, and climb into bed.
Then I'd lie there.
And wait.
My body was exhausted, but my mind was still replaying the day. Conversations, to-do lists, tomorrow's plans—it all seemed to arrive the moment my head hit the pillow.
The problem wasn't that I wasn't tired.
The problem was that I was asking my brain to go from full speed to asleep in about thirty seconds.

Why the Last Twenty Minutes Matter

Sleep experts often talk about the importance of a wind-down routine, and for good reason.
Your body doesn't simply flip a switch from "go" to "sleep." It needs a transition period.
In fact, one of the biggest sleep mistakes many of us make is climbing into bed before we've actually started winding down.
When we spend long stretches lying in bed trying to fall asleep, our brains can begin associating the bed with wakefulness rather than sleep.
That's why creating a calming routine before getting into bed can be so powerful.
The goal is simple: start the process of relaxing before your head hits the pillow.

My New Evening Habit

Now, instead of getting into bed and hoping sleep arrives, I spend about twenty minutes preparing for it.
Nothing complicated.
I dim the lights, finish the small tasks that tend to linger in my mind, wash my face, brush my teeth, and intentionally slow down.
By the time I actually climb into bed, my body is already moving toward rest.
And most nights, I fall asleep much faster than I used to.

Two Things I Reach For During My Wind-Down

Deep Night Essence

Deep Night Essence has become part of my evening routine because it fits naturally into that transition period.
I take two capsules about twenty minutes before I plan to go to sleep—usually while I'm brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed.
What I appreciate most is that it's melatonin-free and designed to support relaxation without leaving me feeling groggy the next morning.

Tranquil Roll-On

I also keep Tranquil Roll-On nearby during my evening routine.
A swipe on my wrists and the back of my neck creates a simple sensory cue that the day is ending.
The comforting aroma of Cedarwood, Lavender, and Roman Chamomile helps create a peaceful atmosphere while I'm winding down, reading, or putting the last pieces of the day away.

Sleep Starts Before You Get Into Bed

One of the most helpful mindset shifts I've made is realizing that sleep doesn't begin when I lie down.
It begins with the choices I make beforehand.
The twenty minutes before bed often determine how the next eight hours unfold.
Instead of asking your mind to slam on the brakes, try giving it a gentle off-ramp.
You may find that falling asleep becomes less about trying and more about allowing.

What Helps You Wind Down?

Everyone has something that signals the end of the day.
Maybe it's reading a book, taking a warm shower, stretching, journaling, or simply turning off screens earlier.
What's the one thing that helps you go from wired to sleepy on a busy summer night?
I'd love to hear what's working for you.

The Summer Recovery Habit That Saves My Monday Morning

Recovery Before Bed, Not Monday Morning

Summer has a way of making us forget what our bodies are used to.
One day you're taking a leisurely walk, and the next you're hiking a trail you haven't seen in years, swimming for hours with the grandkids, pulling weeds in the garden, or playing an intense game of cornhole that somehow became a full-body workout.
The funny thing is, we often feel fine when the activity is over.
It's the next day that gets us.

Why Do We Feel Sore Later?

Muscle soreness from new or increased activity doesn't always show up right away. In fact, it often peaks 24 to 48 hours after the activity.
That's why Sunday's family adventure can turn into Monday morning stiffness.
Your muscles are responding to work they're not accustomed to doing. The more unusual the activity, the more likely you'll notice it later.

A Simple Recovery Habit

I've found that one of the easiest ways to stay ahead of soreness is to make recovery part of my evening routine.
Instead of waiting until I wake up uncomfortable the next morning, I spend a few minutes before bed focusing on the areas that worked hardest during the day.
It's a small habit, but it can make a big difference in how I feel when I wake up.

My Summer Recovery Favorites

PanAway Essential Oil Blend

After a long day outdoors, PanAway is often the first thing I reach for.
Whether it's tired calves after a hike, hamstrings after swimming, or shoulders after working in the garden, it creates a cooling, soothing sensation that's especially welcome before bed.
I simply warm a few drops between my palms and massage it into the areas that need a little extra attention.

Deep Relief Roll-On

The Deep Relief Roll-On is my take-anywhere solution.
It lives in my beach bag, travel bag, and sometimes even my purse. Because it's already diluted and ready to use, I can quickly apply it whenever I need it.
The combination of Peppermint, Wintergreen, and Copaiba makes it a great companion for active summer days.

Don't Wait Until You're Sore

One of the best wellness lessons I've learned is that taking care of your body before discomfort arrives is often easier than trying to catch up afterward.
A few minutes of recovery before bed can help you wake up feeling ready for another day instead of reminding you of everything you did yesterday.
And let's be honest—summer is too short to spend it moving slowly because of yesterday's adventures.

What About You?

What's the summer activity that always catches up with you the next day?
For me, it's usually a day in the garden. Every year I think I'm in gardening shape until the next morning proves otherwise!
I'd love to hear yours.
